Why this question type matters on the PreACT 9
The PreACT 9 Math section has 38 questions in 45 minutes — a bit over a minute each. A calculator is allowed (the online test includes an on-screen one), but every problem is solvable without it, and mental-math fluency is what keeps you on pace.
Pre-algebra covers exponents, scientific notation, integers, and absolute value. Watch for sign errors on every problem.
